The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has reaffirmed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in strengthening security communication and promoting public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
Ojajuni made the assertion when he received spokespersons of security and paramilitary agencies under the Military, Police and Paramilitary Public Relations Officers Forum (MILPOPPROF), Ogun State Chapter, during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of MILPOPPROF, Ogun State Chapter and Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, included spokespersons from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Correctional Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), So-Safe Corps, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Ogun State Fire Service, among others.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Babaseyi appreciated the Commissioner for receiving the forum and highlighted the historical significance of the visit.
He recalled Ojajuni’s pioneering role in the establishment of MILPOPPROF during his tenure as Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command in 2005, describing the forum as an important platform for fostering cooperation among security and paramilitary agencies.
According to him, the presence of spokespersons from various agencies underscores the forum’s commitment to credible security communication, public enlightenment, inter-agency cooperation and the promotion of public trust.
Responding, Ojajuni expressed delight at receiving the delegation and reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals upon which MILPOPPROF was established.
The Commissioner recalled that the forum emerged from the need to address inter-agency rivalry and strengthen cooperation following the 2005/2006 inter-agency clash at Ojuelegba, Lagos State.
He explained that the initiative was pioneered in collaboration with Major Kingsley Umoh of the 81 Division, then 9th Brigade, with the objective of promoting mutual understanding, trust, information sharing and coordinated security communication among agencies.
Ojajuni urged the current generation of security spokespersons to preserve the founding ideals of the forum while adapting them to the demands of modern, technology-driven communication.
He stressed the need for security agencies to speak with one voice, share credible information and support one another in order to build and sustain public confidence.
The Commissioner also charged the spokespersons to remain professional, factual and responsive in their engagements with the public, noting that effective security communication was essential to maintaining peace, strengthening public cooperation and supporting law enforcement operations.
In their response, members of MILPOPPROF expressed appreciation to Ojajuni for his mentorship, guidance and continued commitment to the ideals of the forum.
They pledged to sustain the legacy of inter-agency collaboration and continue working collectively to promote peace, public safety and professional security communication across Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders in the collective interest of public safety.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant and promptly report credible information to the appropriate security agencies.
