Former Liverpool and Bournemouth footballer Jordon Femi Ibe has been handed a 12-month community order after admitting to assaulting his former girlfriend during a dispute in south London.
Ibe pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, after initially denying the allegation when he appeared before the court in March.
The incident occurred on December 14 outside the Lambeth home of his former girlfriend, Amie Mayson, during an argument reportedly connected to money she claimed Ibe owed her.
The court heard that the disagreement escalated after Ibe arrived at Mayson’s home carrying drinks, snacks and flowers. Prosecutor Aya Alshekhili told the court that Ibe grabbed Mayson by the hair during the confrontation and pulled out one of her braids, leaving a bald patch.
Ibe, who represented himself in court, described his actions as a “serious mistake” and expressed remorse, saying he accepted responsibility for his conduct.
Magistrate Brij Kalia ordered him to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity as part of the community sentence. He was also ordered to pay £764, made up of a £114 surcharge and £650 in court costs.
In a victim impact statement, Mayson said the incident had significantly affected her physical and mental wellbeing and that she continued to experience fear. She also said she felt compassion towards Ibe and that forgiving him had contributed to her healing.
The pair had reportedly been in an on-and-off relationship since late 2024.
Ibe, a former England Under-21 international, was previously arrested by the Metropolitan Police at Luton Airport on January 30.
