Three teams recorded their first victories of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season on Sunday, with Kano Pillars, Plateau United and Nasarawa United all securing maximum points in their respective Matchday Two fixtures.
Kano Pillars produced the most entertaining result of the day, edging Niger Tornadoes 3-2 at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Ubong Friday opened the scoring for the hosts before Fabian Nworie doubled the advantage before half-time. Nworie struck again nine minutes after the restart to give Pillars a seemingly comfortable 3-0 lead.
Tornadoes responded with goals from Godfrey Joseph and Wasiu Jimoh, but the comeback fell short as Pillars held on to claim all three points.
Plateau United also secured their first win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Kwara United at the New Jos Stadium.
Alex Aghahowa scored the decisive goal in the 29th minute, giving the Jos-based side a narrow victory.
In Lafia, Nasarawa United defeated Bendel Insurance by the same scoreline, with Sam Pam’s 55th-minute strike proving enough to settle the encounter.
Meanwhile, Kun Khalifat FC and Barau FC shared the points after playing out a goalless draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
