The Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club has provided food relief to more than 200 women in Kagini Community, Jiwa Chiefdom, Abuja, as part of a health and sanitation outreach aimed at improving residents’ wellbeing.
The programme, held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Office of the District Head of Kagini, also featured an environmental sanitation exercise involving Lions Club members and community youths.
Led by the Club President, Lion Raheem Babatunde Adeosun, MJF, NLCF, the outreach brought together traditional leaders, youths, Lions officials and other stakeholders.
The sanitation exercise saw participants clean parts of the community while sensitising residents on the need to maintain clean surroundings and adopt healthy environmental practices.
Speaking at the event, Lion Dr. Mosunmola Jemilat Abdulwaheed stressed that maintaining a clean environment requires collective responsibility.
She urged residents to take sanitation seriously, noting that proper waste disposal and clean surroundings could help prevent diseases and promote healthier living.
The District Head of Kagini, Ayuba Barau, commended the Lions Club for the initiative and appealed for continued interventions that would improve the welfare of residents.
Barau also advised community members to avoid indiscriminate waste disposal, warning that poor sanitation could increase the spread of diseases such as malaria and typhoid.
The organisers said the relief packages distributed during the outreach were intended to support vulnerable households and provide immediate nutritional assistance.
The initiative, they added, underscored the importance of community collaboration in advancing public health, sanitation and social welfare in underserved communities.
