The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a carpenter, Mustapha Marwana, after an investigation found no evidence linking him to the Ansaru terrorist group.
Marwana, a native of Katsina State, had been arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of school pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The DSS said an investigation panel established that Marwana had no links to the membership, financing, logistics or operations of Ansaru.
Following the findings, the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, ordered his immediate release and approved an initial ₦3 million compensation to assist with his reintegration and livelihood.
Marwana was released into the custody of his lawyer, Oghene Forgive.
Following his release, the carpenter expressed appreciation to the DSS leadership for what he described as a humane intervention.
The Service said the compensation formed part of measures introduced to support individuals cleared after investigations and strengthen public confidence in its operations.
The DSS added that more than ₦300 million had been paid under the current leadership to individuals cleared of allegations or affected by cases of mistaken identity.
