More than 10 people have been killed in fresh attacks by suspected herdsmen in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, sparking protests by angry residents who carried the bodies of the victims to the palace of the Och’Idoma, His Royal Majesty Agabaidu Elaigwu John Odogbo.
The attacks, which occurred in two separate communities in the local government area, triggered outrage among residents who accused authorities of failing to end the persistent killings in Benue South.
In a dramatic display of grief and frustration, mostly young protesters marched to the royal palace with the corpses of the victims, demanding immediate intervention from the Benue State Government, the Federal Government and security agencies.
The demonstrators said the recurring attacks had left communities living in fear and uncertainty, lamenting that many people could no longer feel safe in their ancestral homes.
They also called for urgent and decisive measures to halt the bloodshed and bring those responsible for the attacks to justice.
