The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its war against kidnapping after operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit neutralised two suspected kidnappers, rescued an abducted victim unharmed, and recovered a cache of exhibits including ₦2.2 million cash.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni disclosed in a press release Tuesday that the operation followed the abduction of a victim on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village, Ogun State.
Upon receiving the report, the command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources to secure the victim’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Through sustained intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance, and relentless operational pressure, the victim was released unharmed on June 18, 2026, six days after the abduction.
Determined to ensure the suspects did not escape justice, operatives intensified follow-up operations and embarked on a coordinated manhunt. Acting on credible intelligence, they traced members of the gang to their hideout within the state.
On sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape. The operatives responded professionally, leading to a gun duel during which two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised.
Other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries, while police recovered several exhibits linked to the criminal enterprise.
Items recovered include one single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of Two Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira ₦2,200,000, along with other incriminating materials.
CP Ojajuni described the success as a testament to the intelligence-driven and proactive crime-fighting strategies being pursued under his leadership to ensure the safety and security of residents across the state. He reiterated the command’s resolve to hunt down fleeing gang members and rid Ogun of kidnapping gangs.
