Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralized two suspected kidnappers and arrested two other members of a kidnapping gang during an intelligence-led operation along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road axis of Ogun State.
The operation, carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a single-barrel gun, one million, five hundred thousand naira suspected to be ransom proceeds, several mobile phones, and a black bag.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation followed investigations into the abduction of three persons at Ipojo Area, Iperin, Atan-Ijebu on May 11, 2026.
The victims were reportedly released unharmed on May 14 after the payment of an unspecified ransom.
The police said operatives intensified efforts to track down the kidnappers after the victims regained freedom.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad stormed the gang’s hideout in the early hours of May 15.
The suspects were said to have opened fire on the operatives on sighting them, leading to a gun battle.
Police operatives responded and neutralized two of the suspects, while other gang members escaped into the forest with suspected bullet wounds.
Further investigations later led to the arrest of the alleged kingpin, identified as Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, and another gang member, Mohammed Bello.
The police said all recovered exhibits have been secured, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.
The corpses of the neutralized suspects have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and bravery, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies through its emergency lines.
