The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has appointed a new commander for its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as part of ongoing reforms to improve security.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, approved the appointment of Daramola Sunday Thompson as the new commander of the unit.
The appointment follows reform directives by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at improving police operations and strengthening the fight against violent crimes.
According to the police, the new unit structure is designed to create a more professional and intelligence-driven approach to tackling crimes such as armed robbery, cultism, and other violent offences.
The selection of CSP Thompson came after a screening process, which also included an orientation programme for officers in the unit. The police leadership in the state took part in the exercise to guide the officers and ensure they understand the goals of the reform.
Thompson is an experienced officer who has served in different roles, including in anti-cultism, anti-fraud, and anti-car theft units in Ogun and Ekiti states. He has also worked as a Divisional Police Officer in Ebonyi State.
Speaking on the appointment, CP Ojajuni urged the new commander to carry out his duties with professionalism, discipline, and integrity. He also called for quick and lawful responses to violent crimes across the state.
The police said the move is part of efforts to improve safety and strengthen security operations in Ogun State.
