Two Rotary clubs in Ogun State have joined hands to renovate the sick bay of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, donate medical items, and plant trees as part of their humanitarian service.
The project was carried out by the Rotary Club of Obantoko led by President, Iyabo Omotoke Ilesanmi, and the Rotary Club of Akowonjo led by President, David Amowie Aimuihenyefe.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ogun State Command, Dekudu Area, via Kobape Road, Abeokuta.
Speaking during the event, Rotarian Iyabo Omotoke Ilesanmi appreciated the Commandant of the NSCDC Ogun State Command, Remilekun Ekundayo, for giving the Rotary clubs the opportunity to carry out the project.
She said the clubs were happy to contribute to the welfare of officers and residents through the renovation of the clinic and donation of medical materials.
“We appreciate the commandant, the management team, past presidents and incoming presidents for supporting this project. We promise to continue doing more humanitarian services,” she said.
Also speaking, Rotarian David Amowie Aimuihenyefe described the initiative as a joint humanitarian project between both clubs.
According to him, members contributed what they could when the need to renovate the clinic was presented to them.
“This is just the beginning. I only wish we had started this collaboration earlier before the end of our tenure,” he said.
He explained that Rotary is committed to humanitarian service and helping people in need.
“The NSCDC officers are already doing humanitarian work because they protect citizens before themselves. In a way, they are also Rotarians serving humanity from another angle,” he added.
Aimuihenyefe also promised that more projects would be carried out before the end of his administration and introduced the incoming president, Rotarian Dapo Bankole.
In her response, Commandant Remilekun Ekundayo welcomed members of both Rotary clubs and appreciated them for the renovation of the clinic and donation of medical items.
She specially recognised Rotarian Iyabo Omotoke Ilesanmi for her dual role as a paramilitary officer and president of Rotary Club of Obantoko.
“You have shown through this project that Rotary is truly committed to humanitarian service. This clinic renovation will help save lives, and those who benefit from it will continue to pray for the Rotary clubs,” she said.
The commandant noted that both Rotary and the NSCDC share similar goals of protecting lives and serving humanity.
“We are all humanitarians. We are all working to protect lives and provide comfort for people, even before thinking about ourselves,” she stated.
Ekundayo revealed that the gesture had already been communicated to the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, adding that the partnership between Rotary and the NSCDC would strengthen collaboration between both organisations.
She urged incoming Rotary leaders to build on the achievements of past presidents and continue supporting humanitarian causes.
The commandant also encouraged people to support Rotary projects, even if they are not members of the organisation.
“There is always a reward for helping humanity. People should continue to support good causes that help save lives and improve society,” she said.
She concluded by praying for God’s blessings upon the Rotary clubs, the NSCDC, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
After the commissioning ceremony, members of both Rotary clubs and officers of the NSCDC toured the newly renovated clinic to inspect the upgraded facility and the donated medical items.
The team later proceeded to the tree-planting exercise, where Rotarians, NSCDC officers and guests actively participated in planting trees within the command premises as part of efforts to promote a healthier and greener environment.
