The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, on Friday commemorated the 2026 West African Road Safety Organization (WARSO) Day with a call for stronger action on road safety across the country.
The event, held at the FRSC Sector Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, had the theme: “From Ratification to Action: Implementing the African Road Safety Charter.”
Speaking during the programme, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, stressed the need for stronger collaboration among road safety stakeholders. He urged all agencies and transport unions to work together to reduce road crashes and promote safer roads in Ogun State and Nigeria.
According to him, partnership and commitment from all stakeholders remain important in achieving a safer motoring environment.
The guest lecturer, Assistant Corps Marshal Rotimi Adeleye (Rtd), represented by Corps Commander I.O. Martins (Rtd), highlighted the importance of empowering community-based road safety responders and ensuring strict enforcement of transport safety policies.
He described the two measures as key steps towards the successful implementation of the African Road Safety Charter.
The event was attended by representatives of several security and transport agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), So-Safe Corps, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Transport unions such as ACCOMORAN, RTEAN, and NURTW were also present at the programme.
At the end of the seminar, CC Ogunjobi advised road users to always obey traffic rules and maintain safe driving habits, noting that the FRSC remains committed to ensuring that every journey ends safely.
The Deputy Sector Commander and Head of Operations, DCC S.O. Taiwo, delivered the vote of thanks and appreciated all participating agencies and unions for their continued support towards safer roads.
