The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has announced it will appeal the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Board’s decision to award Morocco a 3-0 win in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
The FSF described the decision as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable,” arguing it undermines African football’s integrity. The controversy surrounds the final match between Senegal and Morocco, which was marred by chaotic scenes after a disallowed goal and a penalty awarded to the hosts.
The CAF Appeals Board overturned an earlier decision by the CAF Disciplinary Board, citing breaches of Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations. The FSF has confirmed it will file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) “as soon as possible” to defend Senegal’s rights and interests.
“The FSF reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the values of integrity and sporting justice,” the statement added. The decision has sparked strong reactions, with the FSF denouncing it as a “discredit to African football”.
Morocco’s protest followed the chaotic scenes, and the Appeals Board found the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s appeal admissible. The initial match result was a 1-0 win for Senegal, but the CAF Appeals Board’s decision awards Morocco a 3-0 victory.
