A wave of outrage and desperation swept through Ayede Ogbese community in Ondo State on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as residents took to the streets to protest the escalating violence and kidnappings in their area. The community has been plagued by a surge in violent incidents, with several cases of kidnapping and killings reported in recent weeks, leaving residents living in fear.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has directed security agencies to intensify operations against kidnappings and killings in the state, stating that some crimes are executed in collaboration with local residents. The police have confirmed the attack and urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has also raised alarm over the rising kidnappings and political crisis in the state, commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for recruiting additional officers into the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps. The NUJ has called on the government to take concrete steps to address the security challenges facing the state.
The protesters have called for the establishment of a permanent army checkpoint in Ogbese to deter further attacks and restore peace to the community. The government has assured the community that it is committed to safeguarding lives and property and that it will work with security agencies to restore peace and order in the affected communities.
