Chief Yemi Sanusi has been returned to office as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Nigeria, following a peaceful state congress held over the weekend. Sanusi, who ran unopposed, was re-elected via a consensus arrangement and affirmed by a loud voice vote from party delegates.
The congress, which took place at the Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta, was conducted peacefully under the supervision of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the party’s national committee. The event was attended by party chieftains, delegates, and stakeholders from across the state.
In his acceptance speech, Sanusi dedicated his victory to the party’s hierarchy, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the entire membership base for their continued trust in his leadership. “I am deeply humbled by this renewed mandate to continue steering the ship of our great party in Ogun State,” he said.
Sanusi pledged to run an inclusive administration that will accommodate every stakeholder and ensure the party remains united and strong ahead of future elections. His first tenure was marked by efforts to consolidate the party’s structure following internal disputes.
Party chieftains praised Sanusi’s leadership style, describing it as a unifying force within the state chapter. They commended his efforts to bring together warring factions within the party and urged him to continue in the same vein.
The Returning Officer, Honourable Wale Ohu, declared the process free, fair, and in line with the party’s constitution, urging the new executive to prioritise unity. “The process was transparent, and we are confident that the outcome reflects the will of the delegates,” Ohu said.
Sanusi’s re-election has been welcomed by many within the party, who see it as a sign of continuity and stability. The APC has been one of the dominant parties in Ogun State, and Sanusi’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in the party’s future electoral successes.
With his re-election, Sanusi is expected to focus on strengthening the party’s structure and preparing for future elections. His leadership will be crucial in ensuring the party’s continued success in the state, and stakeholders are eagerly watching his next moves.
