The Oyo State Government has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to close by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, to allow public officers participate in the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations. This directive is a testament to the state’s commitment to marking this significant milestone.
The directive, signed by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, aims to enable public officers attend the grand finale of activities marking the state’s golden jubilee. According to the statement, the government wants to ensure that all stakeholders come together to celebrate this achievement.
Governor Seyi Makinde granted the approval as part of preparations for the celebrations tagged OyoStateAt50. The governor’s office is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that this celebration is memorable.
Heads of MDAs have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive, while making arrangements for skeletal services in critical areas. This is to ensure that essential services are not disrupted during the celebration.
The celebrations, themed “Consolidating the Legacy, Navigating the Present, and Reimagining the Future,” kicked off on January 26 with an opening ceremony at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. The event featured a public lecture by Governor Makinde and the cutting of a symbolic 50th anniversary cake.
The grand finale on February 3 will feature a gala and award night at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan. This event promises to be a night of pomp and pageantry as the state reflects on its journey so far.
Oyo State was created on February 3, 1976, from the former Western State. As the state marks its 50th anniversary, it is expected that the celebrations will provide an opportunity for reflection, renewal, and recommitment to the state’s development.
