The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has extended its warmest congratulations to the newly inaugurated leadership of the All African Students Unions (AASU) at a grand ceremony held in Accra, Ghana.
In a remark delivered at the 14th Inauguration and Award Ceremony, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, the NANS President, highlighted the significant progress made in Nigerian student welfare and education development, showcasing the country’s commitment to improving the lives of its young people.
Oladoja acknowledged the tireless efforts of the AASU secretariat and the Government of Ghana in sustaining the continental student body, fostering unity and cooperation among African students.
He also extended his congratulations to the outgoing leadership of AASU and welcomed the newly inaugurated leadership, led by a renowned activist and NANS member, wishing them success in their endeavors.
As the leading student body from Nigeria, with an impressive membership of over 40 million, NANS assures AASU of its continued support and collaboration, particularly now that the President of the Union is hosting in Nigeria.
This partnership is expected to strengthen ties between Nigerian students and their African counterparts, promoting cultural exchange and academic cooperation.
Oladoja noted that Nigeria has achieved an uninterrupted academic calendar, marking a significant milestone in the country’s education sector. The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has resolved issues leading to industrial actions, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without disruptions.
Nigerian students now have access to interest-free loans to study at government-owned tertiary institutions, with repayment after two years of graduation upon employment. This initiative has reduced student dropout rates due to financial problems, enabling more young Nigerians to pursue their academic dreams.
The NANS President’s message emphasized the importance of sustainable funding for student organizations, enabling them to effectively represent the interests of their members.
With a message of hope, Oladoja stated, “Aluta Continua Victoria Ascerta” (The struggle continues, victory is assured), as he reaffirmed NANS’ commitment to promoting the welfare and interests of Nigerian students and contributing to the development of Africa.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from across Africa, including government officials, student leaders, and academics, who lauded NANS for its tireless efforts in promoting student welfare and education development in Nigeria.
The event provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss issues affecting African students and explore ways to strengthen cooperation and collaboration among student organizations across the continent.
As AASU embarks on its new chapter, NANS pledges its unwavering support, confident that the union will continue to champion the cause of African students and promote unity and solidarity among young Africans.
The NANS President’s remarks were met with applause from the audience, reflecting the appreciation of the gathering for Nigeria’s progress in student welfare and education development.
