The Peace Initiative Committee (PIC), Ogun Central Chapter, has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons on their qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled to hold in Morocco.
The Super Falcons held Benin Republic to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, after defeating them 2-0 in the first leg played in Togo — sealing a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Chairman of the Peace Initiative Committee, Comrade Akeem Abioro, who spoke with journalists immediately after the match, commended the players for their resilience and determination.
“Though the match ended 1-1 on our soil, we are happy to have qualified on a 3-1 aggregate. I believe the Super Falcons will perform wonders at the WAFCON in Morocco,” he said.
Comrade Abioro also expressed delight at the massive turnout of fans at the stadium, applauding the Ogun State Government for its efforts in ensuring the safety of lives and property.
He noted that the collaboration between security agencies and Security Association like the PIC has encouraged residents to attend night matches without fear.
He further commended the state government for transforming the MKO Abiola Stadium into a world-class sports arena, saying that the series of tournaments hosted there have boosted the state’s socio-economic activities, especially in the business sector.
In a similar vein, one of the spectators, Mr. Ayodele Adebisi, praised the high level of security provided during the match.
“Almost all security agencies, including members of the Peace Initiative Committee, were on ground to ensure maximum security, and the event was hitch-free despite the large crowd,” he said.
The Public Relations Officer of the PIC, Comrade Ifebola Togunwa, advised residents of Abeokuta and Ogun State to remain security conscious and report any suspicious activity that could threaten peace.
He added that the committee remains open to addressing cult-related issues and other forms of unrest in local communities.
