President Bola Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointments of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three years.
The renewed tenure of the two media executives will take effect from October 20, 2026, following the completion of their first three-year term, which began on October 20, 2023.
Dembos, an indigene of Yola in Adamawa State, has had a long career in broadcasting and media administration. Before his appointment as NTA Director-General, he served as the Executive Director of Marketing at the authority and was also a former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).
He joined the NTA in 1989 as an announcer at the Kaduna station after completing his National Youth Service Corps programme. He later rose through various positions, including General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano, before retiring in 2017 as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre.
Similarly, Ali has more than three decades of experience in journalism and media management. His professional interests include the transformation of the media industry and content development in the digital age.
The NAN managing director obtained a bachelor’s degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano.
In renewing their appointments, President Tinubu charged both executives to sustain their commitment to the mandates of NTA and NAN while supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President also expressed confidence that the two media organisations would continue to play significant roles in informing Nigerians and advancing national development under their leadership.
