Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has inspected major livestock facilities in Borno State ahead of their planned commissioning.
Maiha, accompanied by Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadadur, who oversees the state’s Ministry of Livestock Development, visited key facilities in Maiduguri to assess their level of preparedness and operational capacity.
The inspection covered the Borno Liquid Nitrogen Plant, where the minister assessed the equipment and power supply system supporting the facility’s operations.
He also inspected the Borno State Gene Plasm Bank, which supports artificial insemination activities aimed at improving livestock breeds and increasing productivity.
At the cattle breeding facility, Maiha examined cattle imported from Brazil for crossbreeding with local breeds, an initiative designed to enhance genetic quality and boost livestock production.
The minister further visited the Poultry Production Unit and Dairy Processing Plant, where he received briefings on measures being implemented to improve poultry production, milk processing and development of the livestock value chain.
The inspection formed part of preparations for the commissioning of the facilities, which are expected to strengthen livestock production and processing activities in Borno State.
The projects are also expected to support improved animal breeding, expand processing capacity and create opportunities across the livestock sector.
