The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges during a follow-up investigation into a stolen Toyota Matrix.
The suspects, identified as 46-year-old Adeyinka Onakomaya and 48-year-old Olayiwola Kehinde, were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Robbery Team over alleged involvement in armed robbery, carjacking and unlawful possession of firearms.
The investigation followed the recovery of a red Toyota Matrix allegedly stolen during an armed robbery incident in April 2026.
According to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, operatives sustained intelligence gathering and follow-up investigations after recovering the vehicle, eventually tracing the suspects to their alleged hideouts.
Babaseyi said the suspects were arrested at locations around Babaode, along the Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspects and other alleged members of their gang to the April robbery as well as other cases of armed robbery and vehicle snatching in Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan.
Police said a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.
The Command added that the suspects had allegedly made useful statements during interrogation and were providing information that could assist detectives in tracking other members of the suspected syndicate.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects allegedly connected to the group, according to the police.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its persistence and intelligence-led approach to the investigation.
Ojajuni said the operation reflected the Command’s determination to follow criminal cases through to their logical conclusion, particularly those involving armed robbery and violent vehicle snatching.
He assured residents that the police would continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across Ogun State.
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities in their communities through the Gateway Shield toll-free lines.
