Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division Nigerian Army, has reviewed security operations in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State and ordered adjustments to the security architecture following renewed attacks allegedly linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group.
Koughna carried out an operational assessment visit to the Forward Operating Base in Kebbe following recent attacks on communities in Ungushi and other areas around the Sokoto-Kebbi border.
The development was disclosed in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to the statement, the adjustments are aimed at preventing further infiltration by terrorists and strengthening the protection of vulnerable communities in the area.
During the visit, Koughna met with community leaders and residents to assess the security situation and reassure them of the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
The GOC said troops remained fully deployed and on high alert to respond to emerging threats, stressing that terrorist elements would not be allowed to establish safe havens in the region.
He urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, assuring them that security forces were firmly on the ground.
Koughna also appealed to residents to support the security agencies by providing credible and timely information on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
He stressed that effective collaboration between communities and security forces was crucial to detecting, disrupting and dismantling terrorist networks before they could launch further attacks.
