Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved a 60 per cent increase in the monthly subventions of all state-owned tertiary institutions, alongside the immediate implementation of the Federal Government’s agreement with university unions.
The measures, which take effect from August 2026, are aimed at improving workers’ welfare, strengthening the financial capacity of the institutions and enhancing the quality of education in the state.
The governor’s approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.
According to the statement, the increased subvention would enable the institutions to meet their financial obligations more effectively, ensure timely payment of salaries and improve the learning environment for students and staff.
Aiyedatiwa also approved the implementation of the Federal Government/union agreement across relevant state-owned tertiary institutions in Ondo State.
The implementation is expected to address some of the welfare concerns of academic and non-academic workers, improve staff morale and bring the affected institutions in line with applicable national standards.
The governor directed the management of the institutions to ensure that the additional funds are judiciously utilised, with priority given to workers’ welfare and academic development.
He also appealed to the unions to reciprocate the government’s gesture by maintaining industrial harmony and remaining committed to providing quality education.
Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Ondo State into a hub for quality tertiary education, saying his government would continue to introduce measures to strengthen state-owned institutions and improve educational standards.
