The Military, Police and Paramilitary Public Relations Officers Forum (MILPOPPROF), Ogun State Chapter, has paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and promote coordinated public communication.
The forum, comprising Public Relations Officers and spokespersons of security and paramilitary agencies in the state, was received by the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, alongside the Deputy Corps Commander, Administration and Human Resources, DCC Sheu Moshood.
Speaking during the visit, Ogunjobi commended MILPOPPROF for recognising the importance of collaboration among public relations officers of security and paramilitary agencies.
He emphasised the need for discipline, consistency, integrity and professionalism in public service, noting that adherence to established standards remains critical to building and sustaining public confidence in security institutions.
The Sector Commander urged members of the forum to project the positive image of their respective organisations through accurate, timely and responsible communication.
According to him, public relations officers are strategic representatives of their agencies, and their conduct and public statements must reflect the mandates, values and professionalism of the organisations they represent.
Ogunjobi also stressed the importance of fact-checking and verification, particularly during emergencies and sensitive incidents. He recalled an experience from his previous assignment as a Unit Commander involving the circulation of false information about a serious road traffic crash by a popular media platform.
He explained that the situation was professionally managed through timely verification of facts, appropriate communication and engagement with relevant stakeholders.
The Sector Commander said the experience underscored the need for PROs to verify information before dissemination, especially at a time when information spreads rapidly through traditional and digital media platforms.
He urged spokespersons to remain calm, factual and proactive in countering misinformation, stressing that false information should be corrected with verified facts rather than speculation.
Ogunjobi also shared his experience and encounter with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, highlighting the importance of professionalism, respect, effective communication and good interpersonal relationships when dealing with prominent members of society.
He further noted that the cordial relationship among heads of security and paramilitary agencies in Ogun State remains an important asset to the state’s security architecture.
He therefore encouraged MILPOPPROF members to sustain the relationship through regular interaction, information sharing, joint public enlightenment and coordinated communication.
The Sector Commander said although the various security and paramilitary agencies have different statutory mandates, they remain united by the common objective of protecting lives, maintaining public safety and serving the people.
He called on the PROs to use their professional platforms to promote public understanding and confidence in government security institutions.
The strategic visit provided an opportunity for experience sharing and further strengthened professional ties among the Public Relations Officers of security and paramilitary agencies in the state.
The engagement ended with a renewed commitment by the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command and MILPOPPROF Ogun Chapter to sustain inter-agency collaboration and promote accurate, timely and responsible communication in the interest of public safety and confidence
