CP Bode Ojajuni has reaffirmed the Ogun State Police Command’s commitment to the safety of residents and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members across the state.
The Commissioner of Police gave the assurance on Monday while receiving the Ogun State NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Adewuyi Omolabake Frances, and members of her executive management team during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the NYSC, enhancing the security of corps members, and promoting community-based policing initiatives across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Adewuyi commended the Ogun State Police Command for its cordial relationship with the NYSC and for providing security, mentorship, and support to corps members serving in police formations. She also praised the Command’s efforts in safeguarding corps members across all local government areas and pledged the Scheme’s continued cooperation, particularly in intelligence sharing.
Responding, CP Ojajuni reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the core responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force, assuring that the Command would continue to prioritise the safety of all residents, including corps members.
Addressing the corps members present, the Commissioner reflected on his own NYSC experience, describing it as a defining period that shaped his career and personal development. He encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Scheme to build character, leadership, and resilience.
He also warned them against engaging in criminal activities, stressing that the NYSC uniform does not shield anyone from prosecution if found guilty of any offence. He urged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the Scheme, their respective states, and Nigeria.
As part of efforts to prevent crime, CP Ojajuni introduced the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), describing it as a community-driven initiative aimed at discouraging cultism, substance abuse, and other social vices among young people. He disclosed that the Command would soon launch a statewide sensitisation campaign to expand the programme’s impact across schools and communities in Ogun State.
The Commissioner also urged the NYSC management to sustain strict supervision and discipline among corps members to promote responsible citizenship.
Highlighting the Command’s commitment to public safety, Ojajuni recalled the recent rescue of 18 stranded corps members along the Ogbere–Ijebu Ode road after their vehicle broke down at night. He said the prompt response and safe evacuation of the corps members underscored the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives across Ogun State.
