Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, has declared that Nigeria has no option but victory against Zambia as the team seeks to revive its campaign in the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Madugu said the encounter is crucial to Nigeria’s ambition of qualifying for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup, insisting that the players are determined to bounce back from their disappointing opening defeat.
Speaking ahead of the clash, the coach described the fixture as a must-win encounter.
“It’s win or nothing. We know perfectly well what’s at stake,” Madugu was quoted as saying by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
He added that the Super Falcons are focused on correcting the mistakes that led to their 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening match.
“We want to be at the World Cup, and we will do everything to correct the mistakes of the first match,” he said.
Nigeria heads into the game under pressure after the opening loss, while Zambia will be buoyed by a commanding 6-0 victory over Egypt in their first outing.
