The principal of Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has revealed that the kidnappers murdered two teachers in captivity to pressure the government into meeting their demands.
Speaking on Monday after she and other rescued victims were received by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Oyo State Government House, Alamu said the abductors deliberately killed Mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun and Deacon Esiyan Adegboye in a bid to force the authorities to act.
According to her, Oyedokun was beheaded on the second day of their abduction, while Adegboye was shot dead on the first Sunday of June.
“They killed them purposely because they thought it would force the hand of the government to provide them whatever they wanted,” she said, adding that the abductors were aware the case had attracted nationwide attention.
Alamu also recounted the victims’ 56-day ordeal, saying they spent most of the time in the open forest under harsh weather conditions while struggling to keep the pupils safe and emotionally stable.
Although she was not physically assaulted, she disclosed that several of the younger pupils were severely beaten whenever they cried or made noise.
The rescued teachers and pupils were handed over to the Oyo State Government by the Federal Government after receiving medical care and psychosocial support at the Military Hospital in Ibadan following their release.
