The Federal Government has extended condolences to the government and people of China following the deadly floods and landslides that struck areas along the China-Nepal border on August 26, 2026.
The disaster reportedly resulted in multiple deaths and left hundreds of people injured, while causing extensive destruction in Gyirong County, Tibet.
In a statement issued by Oluwafemi Adeniyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria expressed sympathy to the families of victims affected by the disaster, including Chinese and Nepali nationals as well as foreign nationals from Australia, India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The Federal Government commended Chinese President Xi Jinping and the country’s rescue teams for their prompt response and continued humanitarian operations following the disaster.
Nigeria also expressed solidarity with the affected communities as rescue and recovery efforts continue, while praying for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives and strength and comfort for the injured and displaced.
