Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to promote peace, unity and compassion as Muslims across the country commemorate Eid-el-Maulud, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Shettima, in a message to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, urged citizens to reflect on the teachings and exemplary life of the Prophet by demonstrating mercy, humility, justice and service to humanity.
According to the Vice President, the Prophet’s life provides enduring lessons on responsible leadership, fairness and concern for the welfare of others.
He urged Nigerians to translate these values into their daily lives, particularly by supporting vulnerable members of society and rejecting hatred, intolerance and division.
Shettima also encouraged citizens to strengthen the bonds that unite the country, describing Nigeria’s religious and cultural diversity as a major strength that should promote peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
The Vice President said the call for unity was particularly important as the country continues to make economic progress under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He urged Muslims and other Nigerians to extend kindness and generosity to their neighbours and communities, stressing that the significance of Eid-el-Maulud should go beyond celebration.
Shettima said the true essence of the occasion should be reflected in the conduct of believers and their commitment to the values exemplified by Prophet Muhammad.
He wished Muslims and all Nigerians a peaceful and blessed Eid-el-Maulud, while praying for lasting peace, prosperity and divine guidance for the country.
