The Nigerian naira ended the trading week on a positive note, recording a marginal gain against the US dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Friday.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira appreciated to N1,346.49 per dollar, compared with N1,347.63 recorded on Thursday.
The latest figure represents a N1.14 gain for the naira against the dollar on a day-to-day basis.
At the parallel market, however, the local currency maintained its previous rate, with the dollar trading at N1,405 on Friday, the same rate recorded on Thursday.
The latest movement came as Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves stood at $52.66 billion as of August 19, 2026, according to available data.
The naira’s performance during the week was largely positive, recording gains on most trading days despite a single decline on Wednesday.
On a week-on-week basis, the local currency strengthened by N11.12 against the dollar at the official market.
The latest appreciation marks another positive development for the naira as the currency continues to trade within a relatively stronger range against the US dollar at the official foreign exchange market.
