The campaign organisation of Osun State governorship candidate Ademola Adeleke has called for increased security at collation centres across the state amid concerns over alleged attempts to disrupt the electoral process.
The Imole Campaign Council, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee, Bamidele Salam, alleged that some individuals were pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the election inconclusive.
The campaign described the alleged move as an attempt to frustrate what it called Adeleke’s expected victory and urged INEC to ensure that the results reflect the votes cast by residents.
It also called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies to strengthen security around collation centres.
According to the campaign, additional security measures were necessary to prevent alleged attempts by hoodlums to interfere with the collation process.
The organisation further alleged that ballot boxes had been hijacked at some polling units and called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
It urged INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and security agencies to uphold President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that the election should be free, fair and credible, describing the Osun poll as an important test ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The campaign also appealed to local and international observers to closely monitor developments and raise concerns over any action capable of undermining the electoral process.
However, the allegations made by the campaign organisation could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
