The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded more than 80 per cent of results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election to its Results Viewing Portal, IReV.
As of 7:53pm, checks showed that the commission had uploaded a significant portion of the results, in line with its earlier commitment to make polling-unit results available on the platform.
The development comes as collation of results continues across the state following voting by residents to elect a governor for another four-year term.
Fifteen political parties participated in the election, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke contesting for a second term on the platform of the Accord Party.
Two candidates, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), had withdrawn from the race before the election.
While Adeyemi-Doro endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Adewale declared support for Adeleke. Despite their withdrawals, both parties remained listed on the ballot.
Adeleke had earlier recorded a win at his polling unit, where the Accord Party polled 57 votes against the APC’s 43 votes at Polling Unit 026, Ward 5, in Osogbo Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, results from other polling units are being transmitted and collated as the electoral process progresses.
The election was also accompanied by reports of intimidation, vote-buying and other alleged electoral offences in some parts of the state, although voting was reported to have proceeded peacefully in several locations.
