The Kano State Police Command has alerted residents in parts of Dawakin Tofa and Ungogo Local Government Areas ahead of a five-day live-fire training exercise by the Nigeria Customs Service Training College, Goron Dutse.
The exercise is scheduled to hold at Hawan Kalibawa in Dawakin Tofa from Sunday, August 9, to Thursday, August 13, 2026.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, urged residents to avoid the designated shooting range throughout the exercise.
Communities specifically advised to keep away from the area include Dambazau, Gangaren Dutse, Tumfafi, Kakurum, Dandalama and other neighbouring settlements.
The police said the exercise would take place daily between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm during the five-day period.
The command also urged residents not to panic if they hear gunshots, stressing that the sounds would be from controlled training activities.
It assured residents that appropriate safety and security measures had been put in place to protect lives and property before, during and after the exercise.
The command appealed to residents to comply with the safety directives and cooperate with security personnel to ensure the exercise is conducted without incident.
