Zenith Bank Plc has confirmed that hackers gained unauthorised access to limited customer information and says it has commenced an investigation into the cyber incident.
In a notice issued to customers on Wednesday, the bank disclosed that the breach involved limited customer data, including email addresses and phone numbers, describing the incident as part of a broader global cyberattack targeting organisations across multiple sectors.
The disclosure comes after several customers raised concerns over alleged unauthorised access to information linked to their accounts.
“Zenith Bank is investigating unauthorised access to limited customer information, including email addresses and phone numbers. This incident is part of a broader, global cyber-attack targeting multiple international organisations across various sectors,” the bank stated.
The latest development comes months after reports that hackers compromised customer data belonging to Remita, Sterling Bank, Providus Bank and other Nigerian financial institutions.
Following those incidents, the Federal Government announced in April that it would investigate the reported data breaches. However, as of the time of filing this report, no public update has been provided on the outcome of the investigation.
