Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to partner with the Federal Government in reforming the Almajiri education system as part of efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the country.
She made the appeal while receiving the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef Bin Muhammed Albalawi, who paid her a familiarity visit at her office.
Oluremi Tinubu said reforming the Almajiri school system is essential to securing the future of Nigerian children, noting that the current system exposes many of them to hunger, exploitation and other social challenges.
She stressed the need to integrate formal education into the Almajiri system to provide children with better opportunities and improve their overall welfare.
The First Lady urged Saudi Arabia to support Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to transform the system and expand access to quality education for vulnerable children.
Ambassador Albalawi, who began his diplomatic assignment in Nigeria about five months ago, expressed his commitment to strengthening the long-standing bilateral relationship between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.
The visit formed part of ongoing engagements aimed at deepening cooperation between the two oil-producing nations.
