Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a soldier declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for allegedly supplying military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal elements while attempting to flee to the Republic of Cameroon.
The suspect, Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, Lagos, was apprehended at about 6:30 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by troops of 7 Provost Group at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri, Borno State, following credible intelligence.
According to the military, the soldier had been declared wanted on July 23, 2026, over allegations of illegally supplying military accoutrements to terrorists.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Private Yusuf absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026, before relocating to Maiduguri, where he reportedly hid in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate.
The Army said the arrest highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and demonstrates its commitment to ensuring accountability among personnel whose actions undermine military discipline, ethics and national security.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where further investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of his alleged activities and identify possible accomplices.
In a statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Operation HADIN KAI reiterated that there is no safe haven for anyone aiding terrorism or other criminal activities, regardless of their status.
The military also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and integrity in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign, while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the North-East.
