Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) by President Bola Tinubu, months after publicly declaring he had no interest in serving in the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had in October 2025 revealed that President Tinubu offered him a political appointment, but he declined, saying he preferred to remain out of public office after completing two terms as governor.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Fayose said, “Have you seen me taking an appointment from the APC? Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir.’ At 65, I’d rather be at home, being more responsible and doing other things that I need to do.”
He also clarified at the time that although he maintained a cordial relationship with President Tinubu, it was based on personal friendship and not political affiliation.
However, President Tinubu on Monday named Fayose as Chairman of the REA Board as part of 26 appointments into the boards and management of 10 federal government agencies and commissions.
The appointments, which took immediate effect, were announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Fayose’s appointment comes less than a year after his public rejection of any role in the APC-led administration, marking a significant change from his earlier position on accepting federal appointments.
