Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has commended President Bola Tinubu and security agencies for securing the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking during a telephone interview on Politics Today on Channels Television on Friday, the governor described the rescue of the victims after 57 days in captivity as a huge relief to their families and the entire state.
Makinde praised the efforts of the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military and other security operatives involved in the rescue operation.
“We’ll use the opportunity to say thank you to our service commanders, the Nigerian Police, the DSS, the military and the high command and, of course, the President, for pushing really hard to have this done,” he said.
The governor, who expressed joy over the development, said the release of the victims had brought an end to weeks of anxiety and uncertainty.
“It’s such a big relief for all of us and for those waiting for this past 57 days. I think it’s a big relief for all of us,” he added.
Makinde said he was overwhelmed by the development and would speak further after fully processing the news.
The rescued schoolchildren and teachers were kidnapped in Orire Local Government Area, sparking widespread concern and renewed calls for improved security across Oyo State and the country.
