A new youth-focused civic and political engagement movement, Gen-Z in Politics, has been launched with the aim of empowering young Nigerians to actively participate in governance, public service, and democratic leadership.
The initiative was founded by Sunmola Adijat Olashile, a former House of Assembly aspirant for Ado-Odo/Ota State Constituency and currently a consultant to the Dapo Abiodun administration in Ogun State.
In a statement issued and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital, the young vibrant female politician, explained that the movement seeks to bridge the gap between political awareness and political action among young Nigerians by raising a new generation of politically informed, visionary, and leadership-oriented citizens capable of influencing governance and shaping the nation’s future.
Olashile said Nigeria’s future cannot be built without the active participation of young people, noting that the emerging generation possesses the innovation, creativity, and understanding needed to address contemporary challenges and contribute meaningfully to national development.
She explained that Gen-Z in Politics would focus on civic education, advocacy, mentorship, leadership development, grassroots mobilization, and digital engagement to equip young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills required for effective participation in governance and policy-making.
According to the statement “The future of governance should not be left solely to existing structures but must be influenced by a generation that understands today’s realities and tomorrow’s possibilities”.
The founder noted that the movement’s mission is to educate, empower, and mobilize young people to actively participate in governance and influence political decisions, while its vision is to build a generation of politically conscious, leadership-driven, and socially responsible Nigerians who will strengthen democracy and confidently occupy positions of leadership.
She added that the organisation is guided by values such as political consciousness, youth empowerment, integrity, inclusiveness, civic responsibility, strategic leadership, and digital innovation.
While describing the initiative as more than a political movement, Olashile said it is a growing community designed to provide young Nigerians with opportunities for learning, networking, leadership development, mentorship, and collective action.
Our correspondent gathered that registration has been opened for interested participants, including students, entrepreneurs, professionals, activists, creatives, and other young Nigerians passionate about leadership, civic engagement, and nation-building.
