The National Association of Nigerian Students has announced a solidarity and advocacy movement in Oyo State to demand urgent action on the abduction of students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area.
In a statement released by Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, the newly elected President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, the students’ body described the incident as a gruesome and inhumane attack that has left victims in captivity for three weeks without rescue. NANS said silence was no longer acceptable at this critical juncture.
The association said the movement will bring together all NANS structures, sister unions, student leaders, activists, and other well-meaning Nigerians to press for justice and the safe release of those abducted.
Activities lined up for the solidarity action include visits to the affected schools: Community High School/Grammar School, Ahoro-Esiele; L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esiele; and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.
NANS also plans to meet with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, and the State Director of the Department of State Services to demand accountability and a clear timeline for rescue operations.
A major walk against insecurity will be held in the Oyo State capital, Ibadan, as part of the advocacy. The association said the walk is intended to amplify calls for government action and draw national attention to the hostage situation.
The solidarity and advocacy movement is scheduled to hold on Monday, 1 June 2026. NANS described the date as a moment for decisive action rather than further delay.
The students’ body called on all stakeholders and Nigerians concerned about the safety of learners to join the movement, stressing that the protection of students and teachers must be treated as a national emergency.
NANS reaffirmed its role as the apex umbrella body for students across Nigeria and in the diaspora, saying it will continue to mobilise pressure until the abducted students and teachers are rescued and those responsible are brought to justice.
