Five persons were burnt to death while 10 others sustained injuries following a lone crash along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around Iyana Egbado at approximately 11:12 am and involved a white Mazda E2000 bus with registration number KRD809XC, which was carrying 20 passengers comprising six adult males, 11 adult females, one male child and two female children.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson in Ogun State, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, five of the passengers were killed — one adult male, two adult females, one male child and one female child — while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Five persons escaped unhurt.
The FRSC attributed the crash to speeding and overloading. Injured victims were taken to the General Hospital in Ifo and Oreofe Specialist Hospital in Itori for treatment, while the corpses were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.
Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to avoid speeding, overloading and traffic violations, particularly during the festive period.
