A current house of assembly member, representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, Hon. Dr Babatunde Tella has won the primary election held on Wednesday, 20th of May 2027, emerging the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking shortly after the exercise on Wednesday , Tella expressed gratitude to party leaders, ward executives and members for their support and unity throughout the primary process.
According to him, the results reflected the overwhelming confidence reposed in him by party faithful across the constituency.
“The figures showed a landslide victory in all the 16 wards. I’m very grateful for the participation of all the ward chairmen, particularly the party chairman, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi, and all our leaders,” he said.
Tella noted that the peaceful conduct and outcome of the primary election were made possible by the unity within the party after he was adopted as the consensus candidate.
“Immediately I was announced as the consensus candidate, everybody fell in line and most of the aspirants stepped down except one, and we thank God for how it turned out today,” he added.
Reacting to the opposition posed by one of the aspirants who contested against him, Tella questioned the political relevance and grassroots connection of the contender within the local government.
“The truth is that he’s not one of us. Even in his ward, we don’t know him. I have been on ground for about 30 years in this local government. Somebody that came yesterday cannot just beat me. It’s even an insult that I’m contesting with him,” Tella stated…. Headlines
