The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and violent crimes with the neutralization of a suspected kidnapping kingpin during an operation in Ogun State.
The Police said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out the intelligence-led operation at a criminal hideout located in the Orile Ilugun Forest area along the Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babatunde Babaseyi, the operation led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with twenty rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones, and the sum of two million naira.
The breakthrough followed the successful rescue of a kidnapping victim who was abducted on May 14, 2026, at Nufats Fuel Station along the Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway in Odeda Local Government Area.
The victim was said to have regained freedom unharmed on May 18 at about 8:30 p.m. after being released by the kidnappers.
Following the victim’s release, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad intensified efforts to track down members of the gang responsible for the abduction.
The Police said the operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout on May 19 at about 6:00 a.m.
During the operation, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the Police, leading to a gun battle.
The operatives responded with superior firepower, which resulted in the neutralization of the gang leader, while other members of the syndicate escaped into the forest with gunshot injuries.
The Police added that the body of the suspected kingpin has been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their bravery, professionalism, and commitment during the operation.
He also assured residents of the Command’s determination to continue tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
The Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
