The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security measures around Ijebu-Ode following an environmental incident along the Agoro/Okunowa Road axis. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni led a follow-up assessment of affected communities and schools on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
CP Ojajuni visited Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School and other impacted areas alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Muritala Bolanle. The Officer in Charge of the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and other emergency response stakeholders also participated in the on-site inspection.
Following the assessment, the commissioner ordered the immediate deployment of additional Police EOD personnel, surveillance teams, tactical operatives, and the School Protection Squad. The deployment is aimed at strengthening security coverage around the affected schools and communities.
The visit was carried out in collaboration with the Ogun State Commissioners for Education, Environment, and Health. Officials used the opportunity to sensitize residents, teachers, parents, students, and community stakeholders on precautionary safety measures and emergency response procedures.
During the sensitization session, CP Ojajuni addressed participants and stressed the need for calmness and vigilance. He urged everyone to strictly adhere to established emergency protocols to minimize risk and ensure swift response in case of further incidents.
Members of the public have been advised to contact the Ogun State Government Emergency Call Centre on 08112000033 for any emergency related to the incident. The command said the hotline is active for prompt reporting and coordination.
Residents were also urged to immediately seek help for affected persons, assist victims to breathe using wet clothes where necessary, and convey them to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention. The police said quick first aid and medical intervention remain critical.
DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Command, said the situation remains under control. He added that monitoring, surveillance, and coordinated response operations are ongoing across the affected areas.
The command reassured residents that security and emergency teams would maintain a visible presence until normalcy is fully restored. Authorities said further updates would be provided as assessments and investigations continue.
