President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
The announcement was made on Monday in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, through the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.
The Presidency said the appointment reflects Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, expanding intelligence-driven operations, and improving collaboration among security agencies to counter emerging threats. The role is expected to enhance Nigeria’s response to homeland security challenges.
Fadewa is described as a highly decorated retired general with over 30 years of experience in military and intelligence operations. His service record includes national security strategy, intelligence fusion, counter-terrorism, and international security diplomacy.
From 2015 to 2021, Fadewa served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser. During that period, he played a key role in developing Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination system.
The statement noted that Fadewa led the creation of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at ONSA. The centre brought g gtogether the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces to improve threat assessments and coordinated responses.
Since retiring from active service, Fadewa has worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja. There he contributed to discussions on policing, civil-security partnerships, and national security reforms.
Fadewa is also the author of _Policing and National Security in Nigeria, a book examining ways to strengthen cooperation between civil authorities and security forces. The work has been cited in policy discussions on security sector reform.
President Tinubu said he believes Fadewa’s appointment will advance efforts to build a safer Nigeria through better coordination of homeland security programs, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management. He urged the retired general to apply his experience to support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The appointment takes effect immediately, with Fadewa expected to advise on strategies to enhance internal security and inter-agency collaboration.
