All Progressives Congress national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has warned that aspirants who disrupt the party’s primaries risk suspension. He gave the warning on Monday while addressing aspirants who had undergone screening by various committees.
Yilwatda said the APC would not tolerate violence, unrest, anti-party activities, or any attempt to undermine the integrity of the selection process. He said severe disciplinary measures would be applied against anyone found guilty.
In a statement issued by his special adviser on media and information, Abimbola Tooki, the chairman urged all aspirants to conduct themselves with discipline, maturity, and statesmanship. He said the party was committed to transparent, peaceful, and credible primaries.
The APC chairman said the party had built a reputation for internal democracy and would not allow individual ambitions to override the collective interest. He stressed that primaries must strengthen, not weaken, public confidence in the party.
Yilwatda reminded aspirants that every contest would produce winners and non-winners. He said democracy thrives on healthy competition, mutual respect, and acceptance of outcomes.
“In every democratic contest, only one person will eventually emerge victorious. What is important is the spirit with which the process is approached,” he said. He urged aspirants to display maturity and patriotism by accepting results in the interest of the party.
The chairman called on aspirants to see themselves as ambassadors of the APC. He said their conduct during and after the primaries would shape public perception of the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Yilwatda also commended President Bola Tinubu for strengthening democratic institutions and consolidating internal party processes. He listed investments in roads, rail, agriculture, energy, and small businesses as part of the administration’s reforms.
He asked party stakeholders to align with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and avoid actions that could create division or overheat the polity. The APC is preparing for nationwide primaries ahead of the 2027 polls.
