Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has commissioned the 5.5-kilometre Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving connectivity and driving economic activities across Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas.
The governor said the newly completed corridor is already improving mobility and boosting commerce for residents, traders, and transporters in the axis. He noted that the road will ease movement of goods and reduce travel time within the Abeokuta metropolis.
At the commissioning, Governor Abiodun announced plans to commence the reconstruction of the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road. He explained that the project will include a one-kilometre link road with a bridge to enhance access within the axis and open up surrounding communities.
He disclosed that solar streetlights will be installed along the Elega–Saje corridor to further support businesses and security. According to him, the lighting will extend trading hours and improve nighttime safety for commuters and residents.
Governor Abiodun stated that his administration has about 26 roads ready for commissioning across the state. He said the projects will be inaugurated on a weekly basis as part of the government’s broader infrastructure agenda.
He also highlighted other ongoing projects, including the Car Wash–Adatan Road, which he described as near-complete. The governor said the road will provide another vital link within Abeokuta and complement existing routes to reduce congestion.
Speaking on tourism, he pointed to the growing success of the Olumo Rock Tourist Centre. He said the site is now attracting international interest and generating increased revenue, noting that tourism remains a key driver of the state’s economy.
Governor Abiodun restated his commitment to sustaining a peaceful environment while delivering impactful projects across Ogun State. He said the administration will continue to prioritize infrastructure that directly improves the lives of the people.
He urged residents to protect the new facilities and cooperate with the government to ensure long-term benefits. He added that strengthening infrastructure remains central to the state’s plan for economic growth and job creation.
