The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has organized its second-quarter capacity-building workshop to strengthen data-driven approaches to road safety management.
The development was contained in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Odunsi Afolabi.
The workshop, held on Thursday at the Shehu Mohammed Multipurpose Hall, RS2.2 Sector Command, Ibara, Abeokuta, was themed: “Road Safety Management: Strategy for Evaluating the Impact of Operations, Performance, and Safety.” It was organized by the Policy, Research, and Statistics (PRS) Department.
Declaring the workshop open, the Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, said the initiative aligns with the Corps’ 2026 corporate strategic goals, which aim to achieve a 10 percent reduction in road traffic fatalities and injuries through improved data utilization.
Fasakin emphasized the critical role of accurate data collection and analysis in enhancing operational efficiency and driving informed decision-making across commands.
The guest speaker, Omolara Adebukola Adebayo, Statistician-General of the Ogun State Bureau of Statistics, delivered a presentation on data management frameworks and implementation strategies. She highlighted the need for structured systems to support evidence-based road safety interventions.
Participants at the workshop stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration, noting that effective data integration among the police, health sector, and transport authorities is vital for building a unified road safety database.
They also advocated technological advancements, including the deployment of a centralized data management system and installation of speed cameras on high-risk corridors to curb speed-related crashes.
Discussions further underscored the adoption of SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) targets in data interpretation, alongside modern traffic counting methods to accurately estimate vehicular population.
The workshop concluded with a directive on strict compliance with report submission timelines, as the Sector Commander described prompt reporting as essential for effective planning and policy implementation.
The command also resolved to intensify training for Data Information Officers and provide necessary analytical tools across departments.
The event was attended by unit commanders, PRS officers, heads of Drivers’ Licence Centres, and outpost commanders from across Ogun State.
