The Kwara State Government has condemned the recent bandit attack in Nuku community, Kaiama Local Government Area, where five forest guards were killed during a midnight assault on a security outpost.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the slain guards as brave patriots who died defending their communities.
The governor expressed his condolences to the families and communities of the forest guards, saying they will forever remain heroes. He also commended the efforts of security agencies and urged them to do more to curb insecurity in the state.
The attack has heightened fear among residents, coming barely two months after a deadly attack on Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in the same local government area. The governor has announced the constitution of a Kwara State Security Strategy Committee to strengthen the state’s security response.
The committee, chaired by retired Maj.-Gen. G.A. Wahab, includes senior security officers and will submit its report within four weeks. The governor is expected to meet with the committee to deliberate on strategies to tackle insecurity in the state.
The attack is part of a growing security concern in Nigeria, with bandit gangs and other armed groups carrying out attacks in several rural areas. The Kwara State Government has assured that it remains committed to supporting the families of the deceased and intensifying efforts to curb insecurity.
In a statement, the governor said, “Nothing can truly compensate for the ultimate sacrifice that the fallen guards have made on our behalf. Our sincere condolences go to the families and communities of the forest guards. They will forever remain our heroes.”
The Kwara State Security Strategy Committee will work closely with security agencies to identify vulnerabilities and develop strategies to prevent future attacks. The committee’s report is expected to inform the state’s security policy and guide its response to insecurity.
