The Ogun State Police Command has rescued five students of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade, who were kidnapped by gunmen in the Sapade area of the state.
The incident happened late on April 27, 2026, around 10:55 p.m., when the police at Ipara Division received a distress call about a suspected kidnapping. Officers quickly moved to the scene, where they found an ash-coloured Toyota vehicle abandoned.
According to the police, the vehicle had bullet holes and blood stains. Phones and other personal items were also found inside. An identity card recovered from the car confirmed that the victims were students of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade.
Following this discovery, the police launched a full rescue operation. The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams and directed an intelligence-led mission to find and rescue the victims.
Security teams from Isara Area Command, Ipara Division, SWAT, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and other special units were mobilised. They carried out coordinated searches in nearby bushes and along possible escape routes.
The police said their efforts paid off as the five students were rescued on April 28, 2026. The victims were taken to safety, questioned, and given medical treatment for the conditions they suffered while in captivity.
During the operation, the kidnappers reportedly engaged the police in a gun battle but were overpowered and forced to flee, some with gunshot injuries. No police officer was injured in the process.
The Commissioner of Police praised the officers for their bravery and teamwork. He also assured the public that efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects who escaped.
Residents have been advised to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers.
