The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a viral video claiming to show armed bandits operating in a forest in the state, describing it as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on April 26, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, said the video did not originate from Ogun State or any part of Nigeria.
According to the Command, preliminary findings and fact-checks revealed that the footage was recorded in Kenya during an operation involving cattle rustlers. It was reportedly captured by a General Service Unit (GSU) drone and first appeared online in 2022 before being recirculated with a false claim.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the spread of unverified content, noting that such information could cause fear and reduce public trust in security agencies. He stressed that there is no intelligence report indicating the presence of armed bandits in any forest or part of the state.
Ojajuni assured residents that the Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property through proactive and intelligence-led policing across Ogun State.
The Command advised members of the public to ignore the viral video and avoid sharing unverified information that could create panic. Residents were also urged to rely on official sources for accurate security updates.
The police further called on citizens to remain law-abiding and continue to support security agencies by providing useful information, warning that the spread of false and harmful content will not be tolerated.
Residents were encouraged to report any suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command’s emergency lines.
